As our Special Olympics & Community Inclusion Coordinator, you’ll be the bridge that connects individuals with developmental disabilities to their community while fostering independence, inclusion, and lasting partnerships. What You’ll Do:
Special Olympics Leadership:
- Maintain Special Olympics Ohio Accreditation and provide comprehensive Special Olympics opportunities
- Coordinate sports calendars, athlete registration, and state games participation
- Recruit and train volunteers and coaches, ensuring all safety protocols are followed
- Develop public relations programs to showcase training and events throughout the community
- Provide medical and welfare supervision for athletes, volunteers, and coaches
- Coordinate fundraising efforts and maintain equipment inventory
- Ensure financial oversight and compliance with Special Olympics Ohio regulations
Youth Recreation & Community Engagement:
- Design and facilitate quarterly recreation events for school-age children
- Schedule community-based events throughout the county to maximize accessibility
- Collaborate with community organizations and local leaders to enhance opportunities
- Link individuals to social, educational, volunteer, and recreational opportunities of their choice
- Promote integration into existing community recreation programs
Advocacy & Empowerment:
- Facilitate self-advocacy training including Project STIR and Ohio Self Determination Association involvement
- Provide guidance and support for local self-advocacy groups
- Develop and disseminate educational materials about available resources
- Coordinate board-sponsored events including Animal and Me, Employment Banquet, Annual Christmas Party, and community trips

What You Bring
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of Special Olympics practices and developmental disabilities principles valued
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong public relations and communication skills (oral and written)
- Proficiency with computer hardware and software programs
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
- Time management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
- Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality
Practical Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with current auto insurance
- Must be insurable and able to travel throughout the county
- Ability to pass criminal background check, applicable registry checks, and pre-employment physical, including drug screening
- Flexible work hours with evening and weekend duties expected
- Ability to function independently in the community as a representative of Special Olympics and WCBDD
Work Environment: Combination of office setting and community-based work, both indoors and outdoors. Phone and computer operation required daily. Regular travel to local, regional, and state meetings and events.
