Bernard “Barney” Frey (1949-2022)


Bernard “Barney” Frey, age 73 years, of Pettisville, passed away Saturday evening, November 19, 2022 at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born January 5, 1949 at Wauseon the son of James and Emagene (Short) Frey.

A 1967 graduate of Pettisville High School, he then went on to Hesston College and Goshen College. On July 25, 1970 he married Jo Nussbaum and she survives.

Barney worked at Frey Construction, Wayne Feed and retired from Sauder Woodworking after 30 years there.

He was a lifelong member of West Clinton Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School, and was on the leadership team.

His hobbies included reading, spending time with his grandkids, working with his hands, taking care of the homestead, telling stories, baking Grandpa cookies and helping anyone with a need.

He volunteered at Adriel School and at the Fulton County Senior Center.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; two children, Patty (Daniel) Brown of Troy and Jacob (Eleanor) Frey of Wauseon; three grandchildren, Clara, Alice and Edith Brown; and four siblings, Ken (Pat) Frey of Pettisville, Becky (Dennis) Peabody of Wauseon, Charles (Bryan) Frey of Henderson, NV, and Janet Frey of Pettisville;

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11 AM at the West Clinton Mennonite Church with Pastors Ryan Harker and Linda Riegsecker officiating. Interment will precede in the Pettisville Cemetery at 10 AM. Friends may call at the church from 2-6 PM on Friday, November 25.
