Elaine Hartman (1938-2023)


Elaine Marie (Ritter) (Schultz) Hartman, age 84 years of Wauseon, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 14, 2023, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon.

She was born July 25, 1938 at McComb, the daughter of Everett W. Ritter and Coral B. Cusac.  A 1956 graduate of McComb she was a 4-H member, National Honor Society member and received her State Homemaker Degree.

On January 6, 1957 she married Thomas R. Schultz and they had three children and divorced in 1969.  She then married William E. Hartman on June 19, 1970 and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2019.

Always active in churches, she accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior when she was 13 years old, she was also on several mission teams and committees, along with the Women’s ministry and the sewing group.

She joined the Fulton County Garden club and later became secretary because of her love of flowers, gardening and preserving food for the family.

She worked at Ohio Bell Telephone Company, Rexall Drug Company, American Mat Corp., a bus driver, had a home cleaning business and was a Shaklee Sales Leader.  She loved people and being able to help them.

She is survived by her three children, Thomas E. (Linda) Schultz, Julie A. (Kent) Schultz and Paul A. (Midge) Schultz; four grandchildren, Jeffrey T. (Angie) Lewis, Ashley A. (Josh) Oyer, Melissa E. (Chad) Smith and Samantha E. (Jerry) Nevel; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Ann Ritter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Earl E. Ritter and Marvin F. Ritter; and a grandson, Tristian William Lewis.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11 AM at Pettisville Missionary Church with Pastor Kent Norr officiating. Interment will precede in the North Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 3-7 PM on Friday.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to Pettisville Missionary Church.
