Ester Cortez (1942-2021)

Ester Cortez, age 79, of Wauseon passed away on December 29, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Ester was born on January 8, 1942 in San Antonio, TX to the late Nicholas and Manuela (Martinez) Cortez.

Ester loved to bake, and was famous for her banana and zucchini bread and also for her flour tortillas. She also loved to crochet and do word search puzzles in her free time.

Ester was a member of the Templo Christiano Assembly of God Church in Archbold for many years. She served as a secretary for the Women’s Ministry and was a member of the women’s group.

She also was known for playing her tambourine in church. She loved her family and everyone loved their Aunt Ester.

Surviving Ester are her sisters, Ernestine Cortez of Wauseon, Ellen Chapa of Archbold, and Linda (Raul) Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, TX. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albert Cortez; and sisters, Janie Ybarra, Estela Rodriguez, Hope Olalde, and Eloise Garza.

Visitation for Ester will take place on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon from 4pm – 6pm with a prayer service at 6pm. A funeral service will take place at the Templo Christiano Church in Archbold at 11am on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, with Pastor Misael Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Caballada Mission or to the Templo Christiano Church in Archbold.
