CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland man accused of killing his father and burying the body in their backyard has pleaded guilty to murder and other charges and was sentenced to life in prison.
Cuyahoga County prosecutors alleged Devontey Brown shot his father, Edward Brown, 54, in June 2018 to get access to his money. They said Brown, now 22, covered the body in chemicals, buried it and stole his father’s wallet, credit cards and phone.
Brown confessed the following month after he was arrested in Michigan when officers responded to a domestic violence call, authorities said.
Brown pleaded guilty to murder, theft and corpse abuse charges and was sentenced Thursday to life behind bars, with the possibility of parole after serving at least 18 years, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Messages seeking comment were left Friday for Brown’s attorneys.
