Suspect Wanted For Stabbing Death In Wauseon Arrested In Maryland

According to the Wauseon Police Department, police were dispatched to an injured person at 407 East Park Street in Wauseon.

Upon arrival of officers, 64-year-old Edwin Aguilera was found deceased from multiple stab wounds. Resident Candeleria Cespedes De Aguilera was also found injured and was taken to the Fulton County Health Center and was later transferred to St. Vincent’s for further treatment.

An investigation was then initiated by the Wauseon Police Department along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Information collected on the scene revealed Jose Daniel Aguilera Cespedes as the lone suspect.

An arrest warrant was put out, charging Mr. Aguilera with Murder and Felonious Assault. With assistance from the Maryland State Police and M&T Bank Stadium Security, Jose Daniel Aguilera Cespedes was taken into custody and arrested in Maryland after a brief car chase.

According to the Maryland State Police, Cespedes was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop, where he also crashed into a Maryland State Police cruiser in Frederick County.

“Troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack located the Accord traveling eastbound I-70 at the 35-mile marker in Washington County. Troopers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to make a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle.”

“The driver, later identified as Cespedes, subsequently struck a Hagerstown marked patrol vehicle on the driver’s side. He then continued to flee police.”

“The pursuit continued for approximately three miles before the suspect vehicle was forced to stop due to heavy traffic.”

Troopers arrested Cespedes on the scene without incident. No injuries to Cespedes or other police personnel were reported at the scene. Troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown and Frederick Barracks responded to the scene.”

“Assistance was provided by deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.”

In Maryland, Cespedes is charged with 1st and 2nd-degree assault as well as traffic violations relating to the pursuit.

Further charges are also pending the result of the investigation by the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office. There was no word in the press release regarding extradition back to Ohio.
