Williams County Victim Assistance Program
Job Objective:
Responsible for providing direct service to victims of crime. Advocate works at the pleasure of the Williams County Prosecuting Attorney.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide criminal justice advocacy and information
- Transportation
- Make appropriate referrals
- Provide follow up for restitution information and Victim Impact Statements
- Liaison with public and private organizations to facilitate services for victims
Education:
- High school diploma
- Experience in Criminal Justice or Human Service/Social Work preferred
Skills/Abilities:
- Be nonjudgmental and able to relate to a wide variety of clients
- Have good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to prioritize and manage time effectively
- Understand the court system and be able to explain the terminology to victims
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Work Activities:
- Attend court appearances with victims or on their behalf
- Provide support and referrals to crime victims
- Assist victims in identifying their needs
- Document all contact with victims or on their behalf
- Intercede on behalf of victims with employers, law enforcement and the courts
- Provide other services as required to support victims of crime
- Provide on-call services as needed
The Victim Advocate reports to and works under the Williams County Victim Assistance Director
